Cutting/Mowing

SGEM has a wide range of mowing machinery. from rotary and cylinder pedestrian mowers, to ride-on rotary finishing mowers and cylinder mowers. meaning that we can cover a wide range of sizes and shapes of area. Prices are per hour or per hectare.

Cutting width - 1940mm (76”)
Cutting Height Range - 10-100mm (3/8”-4”)
Work Rate - 6mph (4 acres ph) [depending on cutting length]

This comes on the back of the Kubota MK5000 tractor.
The cuttings are not collected but thrown evenly across the width of the mower.

Trimax Striker 190 (finishing mower)

Although a rotary mower, Trimax mowers are armed with two rollers. (front and back) meaning that a unique airflow is created to lift the sward up before cutting. This helps to give a truer cut, along with the sharp striping effect from the rollers.

grass cuttings are discharged from the rear across the entire width of the mower.
approx work rate - 1 hectare ph (2.47 acre)

An older machine in our fleet, but still versatile. used for cutting the flatter areas. where the finer turf requires a sharper cut. ideal for the small/medium cricket outfields and amenity lawns.
its compact nature for transport makes it great for transporting and getting into the tighter entrances.

The Oldest member of the fleet, dating back to 1989! This little gem is a great machine. its size (being on the small side) means that it can get into pretty much any tight area. as well as get on to the wetter areas before the bigger machines as its so light. The underslung rotary mower doesn’t give sharpest of stripes, as there are no rollers. but the cut is still good. for the rougher areas, it has a side discharge, but is also has an optional collector on the back where presentation is key. This is great for the first couple of cuts of the growing season, when the cuttings can be a little heavier. but also its very effective in leaf clearing!
the high-tip feature, also means that piles can be contained easier, without the need to line the piles of arisings along a wide area. it also means that arisings can be removed from site altogether as it can lift high enough to empty into a trailer.

John Deere 3235B

Another cylinder mower in the fleet, the 3235 is a 5 gang cylinder mower. idea for cutting the shorter, finer grasses within a large area. for example cricket outfields and gold course fairways.

Aeration

Getting air in and around the root system is a very important to ensure healthy grass and well draining ground. SGEM has a wide range of both padestrian and ride-on machines that can cater for all types of areas from small gardens to wide sporting fields.

Hedge Cutting/Flailing

One of the latest additions to sgem is the geo 100 tractor mounted hedge flail. purchased in 2020, it has enable us to cover a much larger volume of work compared to using a handheld hedge cutter. obviously, there is always a place for the handled cutters. for the amenity/intricate hedges, and for where the larger machines cant get to.

Log Splitting

SGEM Has its own tractor-mounted log splitter. This machine runs off of the tractors spool valves and has the pressing power of 14 tonnes! it is available for hire with or without the tractor.

Leaf/Debris Clearing

SGEM Has its own tractor-mounted Leaf Blower. (Wiedenmann Whisper Twister). PTO driven, it is capable of rotating round to blow either side of the tractor. This, along with the JD 755 collector makes little work with clearing large areas of leaves and grass cutting.

 Seed and Feed

SGEM has both tractor-mounted and walk-behind broadcast spreads. these can be used for application of both seed and fertiliser. although we recommend using a seed-drill when over-seeding larger areas, as its proven to be more effective. however. using a spreader and brushing in the seed afterwards can be a more affordable option. we generally use a seed-drill for football pitches and use broadcast spreaders for cricket squares, greens and domestic lawns.

Pre/Post Season Renovations

keeping the playing surface for any sport clean, is very important. The removal of thatch and other unwanted organic matter, along with the replacement of lost soils/loam is key to ensuring healthy grass and true playing surfaces. A combination of scarifying, over-seeding, fertiliser and topdressing is how we achieve this.
